The journal International Shipbuilding Progress (ISP) was founded in 1954. Each year two issues appear (in March and September). Publications submitted to ISP should describe scientific work of high international standards, advancing subjects related to the field of Marine Technology, such as:
- Concept development
- General design of ships and offshore objects
- Ship and offshore structural design
- Hydro-mechanics and -dynamics
- Maritime engineering and machinery systems
- Production processes of all types of ships and other objects intended for marine use
- Production technology and material science
- Shipping science, economics, and all directly related subjects
- Ship operations
- Offshore and ocean engineering in relation to the marine environment
- Marine safety
- Efficiency, lifecycle, and environment
- Ice-related aspects for ships and offshore objects.
The contents of the papers may be of a fundamental or of an applied scientific nature and must be of the highest novelty and rigor.

Abstract: This paper is aimed at providing a framework for cost-benefit assessment of proposed safety measures with the usage of Life Cycle Cost Analysis, a decision-making technique for exploiting different investment opportunities. The reasonable practicality for implementing the proposed measures is supported by cost-effectiveness indices, in terms of a risk-factored cost of the fatalities that would have been averted. Their application is demonstrated by investigating the effectiveness of corrosion measures to bulk carriers.

Abstract: This study was initiated due to the lack of published experimental data on transom stern trimaran capability. The feasibility of the model experiments was examined and a series of model tests were carried out in the towing tank of Department of Naval Architecture, Dalian University of Technology. The study concentrates on the resistance and seakeeping characteristics of transom stern trimaran. A set of configurations of the trimaran over a range of Froude numbers were tested and the results were compared. Some conclusions can be drawn as below. The wave resistance and heave response can be reduced by placing the side …hulls towards the stern and the main hull at high speeds. The pitch motion response can be depressed effectively by increasing the distance between the main hull and the side hulls. Furthermore, the breadth of trimaran is a sensitive parameter to roll, and the amplitude of roll angle is reduced along with the increase of trimaran breadth. Show more

Abstract: This paper presents a comprehensive experimental study on variations of propulsive characteristics of puller and pusher podded propulsors in static azimuthing open water conditions. A custom designed experimental apparatus consisting of a six-component global dynamometer and a three-component pod dynamometer was used to measure the propulsive performance of a model pod unit in pusher and puller configurations in a towing tank. The pod model was tested to measure the forces on the whole unit as well as thrust and torque of the propeller shaft for a range of advance coefficients combined with a range of static azimuth angles from +30° …to −30°. The variations in forces and moments of the propulsor unit with change of azimuth angle and advance speed are presented in non-dimensional forms. The results illustrate that the propeller thrust and torque as well as the unit axial, side forces and the steering moment are complex functions of the azimuth angle and propeller loading. Show more

Abstract: Many areas of seas, harbours and channels that were considered deep and safe for vessel navigation have been changed into dangerous shallow water regions for the new generation vessels due to their drastic increase in size and speed. Hence, the understanding of the safe speed of a vessel to prevent it from grounding when it operates in restricted waterways is gaining more importance. A catamaran vessel, being one of the new generation vessel configurations, is considered here to study the effect of its under-keel clearance of water and also its demi-hull spacing in the determination of a safe vessel speed. …The numerical study using RANSE based CFD solver Fluent has been complemented by results obtained from experiments carried out in the towing tank of IIT Madras using the newly commissioned floating false bottom facility.
