Abstract: This paper is dealing with the analysis of the dynamic behaviour of the controllable pitch propeller control system. Mathematical models – non-linear as well as linearised – for this system have been developed. By means of digital and analog simulations with these models steady state solutions and dynamic responses were obtained. Data on pitch accuracy, stability of the control system and valve characteristics are given. Instability has been found for particular dimensions with both digital and analog approach. Abstract: Data from literature indicate that in marine propellers appreciable deviations from the nominal stress conditions are caused by ships motions. If these motions are the results of wave action, they can be determined by spectral analysis, if response characteristics are available. In a case study a computer simulation of ships motion velocity is executed and the resulting blade load deviations are calculated in various weather conditions. The load record over one year sailing is modified to a probability distribution of stress cycles.
