The journal International Shipbuilding Progress (ISP) was founded in 1954. Each year two issues appear (in March and September). Publications submitted to ISP should describe scientific work of high international standards, advancing subjects related to the field of Marine Technology, such as:
- Concept development
- General design of ships and offshore objects
- Ship and offshore structural design
- Hydro-mechanics and -dynamics
- Maritime engineering and machinery systems
- Production processes of all types of ships and other objects intended for marine use
- Production technology and material science
- Shipping science, economics, and all directly related subjects
- Ship operations
- Offshore and ocean engineering in relation to the marine environment
- Marine safety
- Efficiency, lifecycle, and environment
- Ice-related aspects for ships and offshore objects.
The contents of the papers may be of a fundamental or of an applied scientific nature and must be of the highest novelty and rigor.

Abstract: If a sufficiently detailed electronic computer program for ship designs is established and extended by a treatment of the presumable operating costs, if, moreover, the solely decisive economic criterion of shipbuilding is clearly understood, it will be possible to design better and best possible ship: using the methods of modern Operations Research. The example of an optimization of the service speed is given to illustrate the particular significance of this influencing factor as well as the absolutely real background which has recently led to the construction of fast cargo liners.

Abstract: The contents of the paper stem from a preliminary inquiry into the problem of modelling a surface ship in irregular seas as a nonlinear, time-invariant system when its motions are large. The main objective of the study is to introduce to the naval architectural profession the Wiener theory of nonlinear systems and to evaluate its potential in the solution of such problems. After a brief historical review, the basic results of the theory are summarized and attention is fixed to explicit, time-domain, functional representations of the output of a nonlinear system in terms of input. The Volterra and Wiener kernels …and their transforms are defined and methods for their determination are briefly mentioned. It is then shown how the output of such a system can be characterized when the input is periodic, aperiodic or random. The paper concludes with example applications to ship motion problems and a discussion of several issues associated with this type of analysis. Among tip items discussed are the wave-induced ship resistance in random seas, uncoupled nonlinear motions, such as roll, and the extension of the theory to multi-input, multi-output systems. Abstract: In his paper [1], the author solved mathematically the problem of determination of the ship’s bending moment in a seaway under static equilibrium with the Smith effect taken into consideration. In order to make the suggested analytical method more easily approachable for everyday shipbuilding engineering practice, the author in this paper offers an approximate solution of this problem. Starting from certain assumptions, the author worked out in advance all the coefficients necessary for these calculations and presented their numerical values in tables, which are to he used for rapid orientational calculations in practice.
