The journal International Shipbuilding Progress (ISP) was founded in 1954. Each year two issues appear (in March and September). Publications submitted to ISP should describe scientific work of high international standards, advancing subjects related to the field of Marine Technology, such as:
- Concept development
- General design of ships and offshore objects
- Ship and offshore structural design
- Hydro-mechanics and -dynamics
- Maritime engineering and machinery systems
- Production processes of all types of ships and other objects intended for marine use
- Production technology and material science
- Shipping science, economics, and all directly related subjects
- Ship operations
- Offshore and ocean engineering in relation to the marine environment
- Marine safety
- Efficiency, lifecycle, and environment
- Ice-related aspects for ships and offshore objects.
The contents of the papers may be of a fundamental or of an applied scientific nature and must be of the highest novelty and rigor.

Abstract: An analysis of experimental data from ship model tests, as published by different authors, suggests that the resistance increase in regular head waves may be represented by an analytic expression, which is sufficiently valid for cargo ships with a fine hull form. An attempt is made to derive such an expression suited for the approximate calculation of this added resistance. The formulae obtained, which may be considered as empiric, contain but one factor, (dependent upon the ship’s form) which should be evaluated by means of experiment. The present method makes it possible to calculate the resistance increase in regular head …waves of any length and at any speed, provided that experimental results for merely one speed, or even for one specified wave length and corresponding (synchronous) speed are available. Moreover, by adopting an average value of the above mentioned factor, the added resistance can be calculated without any help of model experiments. Hence, the resistance increase in irregular head waves can be calculated as well, and, as an example, the results regarding an existing container ship are given and compared with actual full-scale data. Furthermore, the added resistance in any irregular head sea represented by a standard spectrum can be predicted very quickly by means of the enclosed graphs, which reproduce the numerical results of an adapted analytical treatment. Abstract: Two calculation methods by which the ship motions, shearing forces, etc. in regular waves can be predicted are compared. The first method is analog to the method introduced by Korvin-Kroukovsky and Jacobs, while the second method is analog to the recently developed methods. The results of both methods are compared mutually and with data obtained from model experiments of a large container ship, considering the heave, pitch, roll and the relative motion and all bending moments, shearing forces and the torsional moment. An attempt is made to account for a part of the non linear effects.
