Abstract: The present note shows the possibility of improved model wake simulation by maintaining extended laminar flow with surface heating. The required heat transfer rates are based on flat plate calculations of boundary layer growth and stability characteristics computed by Wazzan et al.. Also results from recent tests conducted at the Netherlands Ship Model Basin (NSMB) which show the enhanced boundary layer stability with surface heating are briefly described.

Abstract: The equation of unresisted rolling in still-water is used to obtain the transfer functions of this motion. Some of the best known results in naval architecture are derived from these expressions. Suspended weights and free liquid surfaces are regarded as cases of positive feedback whose influence is calculated by block diagram algebra.
