Abstract: A rather extensive vibration analysis is described, which has been performed for a passenger-rail ferry in order to find out an acceptable solution of the vibration problem caused by installation of two independent propulsion systems, light ship structure and fairly rigorous vibration criterion concerning habitability. Vibration of the ship hull, superstructure and engine room including the main engines is analysed utilizing the finite element method. The external and internal excitation of the main engines as well as the propeller excitation are taken into account. The propeller pressure fluctuation has been determined by a model test. As a reasonable solution of the problem, regarding minimization and control of vibration, synchronization and phasing of the propulsion systems are recommended and accepted.
