Abstract: In this paper an attempt is made to generalize traditional lifting line theory, giving it a wider versatility. The generalization of lifting line theory has in particular been attempted for propellers with a radial circulation distribution, characterized by non-zero values at the blade tips. Two different procedures have been developed to take into consideration the simultaneous influence of the radial contraction of the free vortices and the influence of the downstream variation of the hydrodynamic pitch angle on the induced velocities.
