Abstract: In 1964, data was published on the wind-tunnel tests carried out at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics on models of two types of general cargo ships (Ref. 1). As sea trials were planned on a car-ferry attention was again given to the wind effects for this type of ship. Wind-tunnel tests were therefore carried out on a model of the car-ferry at the von Karman Institute in a uniform flow and with a wind gradient such as encountered at sea. The test results are given in the conventional non-dimensional form as well as in the form …of the Hughes’ coefficient K. Comparison is made with published data. Abstract: During the last decade modelfamilies have been investigated in several towing tanks to determine the scale effect on the self-propulsion factors. Due to the small number of modelfamilies which have been tested it is at the moment impossible to determine exactly the scale effect on the propulsion data. The purpose of this paper is to give some simple expressions for the thrust deduction and the wake fractions by the investigation of the results of some wellknown modelfamilies. These give possibility for a simple extrapolation from the model to the ship.

Abstract: A scale model of a crank fixed at one end is loaded by forces and moments at the free end. Measuring of the displacements yields a set of influence numbers. These figures are used for calculation of the axial elasticity of a crankshaft. It is shown that, by means of an extreme simplification, also the elasticity of one single crank can be derived from these influence numbers and that a formula is thus evolved which can be compared with existing formulae.
