The journal International Shipbuilding Progress (ISP) was founded in 1954. Each year two issues appear (in March and September). Publications submitted to ISP should describe scientific work of high international standards, advancing subjects related to the field of Marine Technology, such as:
- Concept development
- General design of ships and offshore objects
- Ship and offshore structural design
- Hydro-mechanics and -dynamics
- Maritime engineering and machinery systems
- Production processes of all types of ships and other objects intended for marine use
- Production technology and material science
- Shipping science, economics, and all directly related subjects
- Ship operations
- Offshore and ocean engineering in relation to the marine environment
- Marine safety
- Efficiency, lifecycle, and environment
- Ice-related aspects for ships and offshore objects.
The contents of the papers may be of a fundamental or of an applied scientific nature and must be of the highest novelty and rigor.

Abstract: Till now, work on the bulbous bow has been based on the calculation of interference between the wave patterns of the ship and a sphere or other geometric solid to represent the bulb. The proposed hypothesis examines the underlying causes of wave and other effects, and hence produces a simple qualitative appreciation of the action of the bulb, in terms of pressure fields. Conclusions are drawn about bulb design for both full and fine ships, and a new type of bulb, in the farm of a cylindrical nose, is proposed. In terms of this type of bulb, a simple analysis …of the flow round the fore body is suggested. Show more

Abstract: Between 1962 and 1966 various modifications were introduced into the large cavitation tunnel in order to improve its cavitation and noise characteristics. A considerable reduction of the self noise of the tunnel was obtained which makes noise tests for propellers more reliable. Furthermore a modernization was carried out to simplify the control and handling of the tunnel.

Abstract: For a reliable testing of propellers on cavitation the shape of the first few milimeters of the leading edge of the screw blade, corresponding with 1 to 2% of the chord, is very important. If the model propeller leaves the workshop, its leading edges neither have the right shape nor are they identical. These differences can usually not be seen by the unaided eye but in the tunnel they result in drastic differences in the cavitation inception of the blade. In order to help the workshop to produce model propellers which are dimensionally more accurate, a microscope mounted on a …special rig is put into use. With the aid of this new apparatus the actual blade edge shape can be optically compared with the prescribed one. If not correct the blade edge can be filed down. Tunnel tests with a standard Wageningen B-series propeller illustrate the importance of leading edge shape on the inception and extent of cavitation. Show more
