Abstract: In this paper the first results are presented of a systematic program on the influence of the principal dimensions and block coefficient on the behavior of a ship model in waves. The models form a related family and have been chosen in accordance with the Series 60 lines. The first stage of the program involves the influence of block coefficient, length-draft and length-beam dimensions. The models have been tested in regular waves with five different wave lengths and five different wave directions; all tests were carried out at one given wave height. The results of the tests have been made dimensionless and diagrams are given from which at four different Froude numbers pertinent variables can be read off. These diagrams can be used for full-scale prediction of the behavior of a ship in waves. The results enable the designer, although within the limits of the variations which were tested in this first stage of the program, to evaluate the influence of the change of principal dimensions and block coefficient.
