Abstract: Call Admission Control (CAC) is one of the resource management functions which regulates network access to ensure QoS provisioning. However, the decision for CAC is very challenging issue due to user mobility, limited radio spectrum and multimedia traffic characteristics. Several schemes have been proposed for CAC in wireless cellular networks. However, during to the complexity of CAC in wireless environment, many simplified models and assumptions are made. Some schemes consider that each mobile node will make hand-over to neighbouring cells with equal probability, which may be not accurate in general. For this reason, the intelligent and heuristic methods are needed. …We proposed a fuzzy-based CAC system by considering the priority of the on-going connections. We called this system FACS-P. In FACS-P, as priority parameter, we considered only one parameter (service request). We extended our work by adding different priorities. We call this system FACS-MP. In this paper, we evaluate by simulations the performance of the proposed system. From the simulation results, we conclude that the FACS-MP makes a good differentiation of different services and has better behaviour than FACS-P. Show more

Abstract: In Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks (WSANs), sensors and actors collaborate together to get the information about the physical environment and perform appropriate actions. In order to provide effective sensing and acting, a distributed local coordination mechanism is necessary among sensors and actors. WSANs have emerged as a variation of WSNs. WSANs are capable of monitoring physical phenomenons, processing sensed data, making decisions based on the sensed data and completing appropriate tasks when needed. WSAN devices deployed in the environment are sensors able to sense environmental data, actors able to react by affecting the environment or have both functions integrated. …In this work, we propose a fuzzy-based system for actor node selection in WSNs. In our system, we use 4 input parameters. Different from our previous work, we consider also the actor mobility. The output parameter is Actor Selection Decision (ASD). The simulation results show that the proposed system selects the actor node in order to have short delays, low energy consumption and proper task assignment. Show more

Abstract: In P2P systems, each peer has to obtain information of other peers and propagate the information to other peers through neighboring peers. Thus, it is important for each peer to have some number of neighbor peers. Moreover, it is more significant to discuss if each peer has reliable neighbor peers. In reality, each peer might be faulty or might send obsolete, even incorrect information to the other peers. We have implemented a P2P platform called JXTA-Overlay, which defines a set of protocols that standardize how different devices may communicate and collaborate among them. It abstracts a new layer on the …top of JXTA through a set of primitive operations and services that are commonly used in JXTA-based applications and provides a set of primitives that can be used by other applications, which will be built on top of the overlay, with complete independence. JXTA-Overlay provides a set of basic functionalities, primitives, intended to be as complete as possible to satisfy the needs of most JXTA-based applications. In this paper, we present two fuzzy-based systems (called FRS1 and FRS2) to improve the reliability of JXTA-Overlay P2P platform. We make a comparison study between the fuzzy-based reliability systems. Comparing the complexity of FRS1 and FRS2, the FRS2 is more complex than FRS1. However, it considers also the security; therefore, it can be used in real application for secure systems. Show more

Abstract: In multi-channel WLANs, the MAC protocol allocates a channel to each transmission pair while avoiding interference. In the channel allocation phase, if the MAC protocol allocates one channel iteratively to multiple narrowly spaced transmission pairs, both channel utilization and network throughput can be improved. However, such an approach leads to traffic overload; thus, if a transmission takes place over a transmission channel, the number of terminals that can receive the transmission decreases. B-MAC, a multi-channel MAC protocol designed for broadcast, starts a new broadcast transmission after waiting for a certain period of time; however, this waiting time increases the transmission …overhead and degrades channel utilization. In this paper, we propose CA-BMAC, a new multi-channel MAC protocol that reduces the waiting time associated with B-MAC, and thus, the transmission overhead. Performance evaluations of the proposed protocol clarify its advantages over B-MAC. Show more

Abstract: The purpose of the Wireless Regional Area Networks (WRANs) is to allow the use of spectrum allocated for television broadcasting in areas with sparse users, ensuring no interference with licensed operators. Cognitive radios using the IEEE 802.22 standard should monitor the environment to not cause interference in primary operators. When multiple WRANs intend to operate on the same set of frequencies in overlapping areas, the 802.22 standard provides mechanisms for their co-existence and provides a temporal multiplexing scheme to solve this problem. We propose three channel allocation algorithms to support the co-existence of potentially interfering WRANs. The proposed algorithms are …based on graph coloring, and the innovation is to consider the demand for bandwidth from each WRAN, maintaining proportionality between the demand for frequencies of each WRAN and what is actually allocated. The algorithms are evaluated and it is concluded that they can efficiently assign channels to WRAN taking into account the bandwidth needs of each network. Show more

Abstract: Alert correlation is an approach to analyze a huge number of security alerts received from network sensors. An alert correlation engine normalizes, fuses and clusters incoming alerts; then identifies relationships among them. Limitation of computing resources, like CPUs, makes such systems not satisfactory. In recent years, GPUs have been used in various fields, however, due to the dynamic nature of processes and data structures in alert correlation, correlation algorithms have not been implemented on the GPU. This paper presents a novel approach to implement alert correlation on the GPU. It focuses on alert aggregation, which is classified as a similarity-based …alert correlation. This approach presents an online cooperative model which utilizes the processing power of CPUs and GPUs to aggregate security alert. This paper also presents the development of a toolkit named GTA2, which works as an assistant tool with Snort and provides online alert aggregation on alerts received. GTA2 takes advantage of unused processing power of existing GPU to aggregate security alerts generated by Snort. Evaluations illustrate the proposed method will improve the processing speed by 15 times. Show more
