Abstract: Heterogeneous network (HetNet) deployment comprising of high power macro nodes overlaid with pico nodes and various other types of low power nodes has been considered as one of the key enabling technology in 3GPP LTE-Advanced. HetNet can significantly enhance the capacity and coverage of cellular networks. However, severe inter-cell interference (ICI) between high power macro and low power pico nodes is a critical performance limiting factor for cell-edge users in HetNet. Coordinated multipoint transmission (CoMP) has been recognized as an effective technique to mitigate ICI in LTE-A. However, backhaul overhead and complexity are critical issues in CoMP. In this paper …we propose a novel scheme that utilizes the benefits of HetNet to improve the system capacity and coverage. Moreover it exploits coordinated multi-point transmission to effectively mitigate ICI with reduced feedback overhead and complexity. In our scheme the users with high signal to interference plus noise ratio are served by the respective macro and pico cells. However, for users in high interference region, coordinated multi-point joint transmission is adopted to increase the radio signal strength and effectively mitigate ICI. The proposed scheme outperforms the conventional system with reduced backhaul overhead and complexity. System level simulations illustrate that the proposed scheme attains higher performance as compared to conventional schemes. Show more

Abstract: Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) optical networks allow multiple subcarriers to be allocated so that both subwavelength and superwavelength traffic can be accommodated. The success of OFDM is based on routing and spectrum allocation, and fairness in this allocation is an important factor in guaranteeing customer satisfaction. In a traditional wavelength-division multiplexing network environment, the fairness is limited to individual source–destination pairs, and the blocking probabilities of calls requesting higher bandwidths are exponentially higher than those requesting lower bandwidths. We utilize here the fairness index to measure the fairness in allocating different calls in the network and investigate four fairness methods …for resolving the fairness problem in OFDM: limited subcarrier reservation, limited waiting, limited number of alternate routes, and limited state blocking. We present simulation results obtained by assuming static routing and the first-fit frequency assignment. Limited subcarrier reservation and limited state blocking can substantially improve fairness with a minimum loss in the network gain. Show more

Abstract: With the development of wireless network technology, the number of mobile devices that access to contents on Internet increases rapidly. It is impressively popular for mobile users to use their mobile devices anytime and anywhere to generate, access and share contents on the Internet. To comply with this tendency, a new network paradigm called content-centric networking (CCN) emerges. With extensive research and demonstration, CCN is gradually widely recognized as a promising next generation Internet architecture, but remains an open issue on how to support source mobility in CCN. In this paper, we take full advantage of the locator/identifier separation along …with control and data plane separation into supporting efficient source mobility in CCN. We decouple the content name from both routing of content requests and content identifying. We split the control and data plane by handling handover signaling and data traffic separately. We also divide the network into many rendezvous domains and design the handover processes of intra-domain and inter-domain movements. We then propose a method to allocate a rendezvous point for a mobile source according to its history roaming behavior in a rendezvous domain. Finally, we present numerical results to demonstrate the performance of the proposed approaches. Show more

Abstract: With the large deployment of interconnected objects and systems, energy consumed by computing equipment is becoming more and more important, and saving energy consumption, particularly at the network layer, becomes a very pertinent issue. Energy saving solutions are generally considered at low communication layers; however, higher layers, typically transport and application ones, have not only an important impact on energy consumption, but also can negatively influence the energy saving mechanisms applied at lower MAC and physical levels. In this context, we propose two energy saving mechanisms for the transport and application layers of the Internet stack. The first one consists …in an improvement of a classical but not well-known mechanism aimed at maintaining opened transport level connections. The second one is related to the adaptation of the qos offered to multimedia applications in order to minimize energy requirements of underlying layers. NS-3 simulation results show the benefits of each mechanism. Show more
