Abstract: We present a novel bandwidth resource provisioning system that enables dynamic, flexible and quantitative end‐to‐end bandwidth reservation and management. The system facilitates agent‐enhanced Service Level Agreement (SLA) negotiation and brokering on a per‐user, per‐application or per‐flow basis. In this paper, various session level SLA schemes involving bandwidth allocation, service start time and service duration parameters are introduced and analysed. The results show how these negotiation schemes can be utilised for the benefits of both negotiating parties, such as getting the highest individual SLA optimisation in terms of Quality of Service (QoS) and price.

Abstract: Dropping probability of handoff calls and blocking probability of new calls are two important QoS measures for cellular networks. Since the dropping probability of handoff calls is more important, call admission policies are used to maintain the upper bound of dropping probability of handoff calls. The fractional channel policy (FC) is a general call admission policy and includes most prioritized channel allocation schemes such as guard channel (GC) and limited fractional channel (LFC) policies. In this paper, we introduce a subclass of fractional channel policy, called uniform fractional channel policy (UFC) and study its performance. Expressions for both dropping probability …of handoff calls and blocking probability of new calls are derived. Then it is shown that there is an optimal value for the parameter of UFC, which minimizes the blocking probability of new calls with the constraint on the upper bound on the dropping probability of handoff calls. An algorithm for finding the optimal parameter of UFC is also given. Conditions under which the UFC performs better than GC is derived. It is concluded that, the UFC policy performs better than GC policy under the low handoff/new traffic ratio. Show more

Abstract: Advances in the areas of QoS and IP multicasting have necessitated the need of integration of these two important features of Internet. Differentiated services (DiffServ) has been proposed as a scalable Solution for supporting QoS in the Internet. Coexistence of multicasting and DiffServ is promising since the DiffServ model can provide a scalable framework and may reduce the computational complexity to locate a QoS‐satisfied multicast tree. In this paper, we have first identify the problems of provisioning multicasting in DiffServ domains. Next, we have proposed an efficient DiffServ‐Aware Multicasting (DAM) scheme which has three novel features: weighted traffic conditioning (WTC), …receiver‐initiated marking (RIM) scheme, and Heterogeneous DSCP Headers encapsulation (HDE). The proposed technique solves many problems with the integration of DiffServ and multicasting while accommodating heterogeneous QoS requirements. The framework is scalable, flexible, and feasible. Moreover, existing QoS techniques can be incorporated into this framework. Abstract: This paper presents an end‐to‐end rate control algorithm for packet switching networks that is executed at the traffic entry nodes. The controller estimates both the bottleneck queue length and available bandwidth to compute the input rate. The aim of the algorithm is to preserve all advantages of the end‐to‐end principle without incurring in reduced performances typical of algorithms that do not use explicit feedback. The proposed End‐to‐End Rate Control Algorithm (ETERCA) is implemented in the context of ATM networks and compared w.r.t. the Explicit Rate Indication Control Algorithm (ERICA) over single bottleneck scenarios and GFC‐2 test bed.
