Abstract: Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) optical network technologies are promising techniques for achieving diverse, bandwidth-intensive applications envisioned in future optical networks. The primary advantage of OFDM is its ability to transport diverse traffic data, ranging from several tens of gigabits to terabits per second. However, spectrum allocation (SA) plays a key role in the success of OFDM. We investigate a spectrum division (zone) approach for solving the dynamic SA problem in multicast- and/or protection-based OFDM. The proposed SA method divides the spectrum into multiple zones, each serving requests of different sizes. Simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed algorithms in terms of revenue loss, fairness and speed.
