Human Systems Management (HSM) is an interdisciplinary, international, refereed journal. It addresses the need to mentally grasp and to in-form the managerial and societally organizational impact of high technology, i.e., the technology of self-governance and self-management.
The gap or gulf is often vast between the ideas world-class business enterprises and organizations employ and what mainstream business journals address. The latter often contain discussions that practitioners pragmatically refute, a problematic situation also reflected in most business schools’ inadequate curriculæ.
To reverse this trend, HSM attempts to provide education, research and theory commensurate to the needs to today’s world-class, capable business professionals. Namely the journal’s purposefulness is to archive research that actually helps business enterprises and organizations self-develop into prosperously successful human systems.

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Information technology creates supremacies by using or exploiting human resources or business which already exist. The use of modern information technology is form of merging between information technology and substantial complementary resources in order to acquire better performance. In this sense, the escalation of information technology can also influence the organizational culture related to quality of human resources in internal environment of organization. Thus, it is important that the influence of IT infrastructure and organizational culture being carried out in order to understand the relationship between both variables. OBJECTIVE: The objectives of this study are to examine …and explain the influence of IT resources on knowledge management capabilities mediated by organizational culture. Also, this study seeks to unfold how these variables are crucial to the existence of higher education institution (e.g. Universities) in Indonesia, particularly those who are listed as active institutional member of the Association of Indonesia School of Business Administration (AIABI). Thus, providing an empirical finding on the context of knowledge management and organizational culture in the higher education context is beneficial in the quest. METHODS: This research is quantitative in nature, by employing the use of survey method as means of inquiry. Further, this research involves 315 samples derived from a total of 63 Indonesian Universities which actively are listed members of the AIABI. For the purpose of hypotheses testing, inferential statistical analysis was utilised in the form of path analysis. RESULTS: This study indicated that IT human resource does not influence Knowledge Management Capabilities. This suggest that that the existence of a good and qualified IT infrastructure in Indonesia does not easily assure the running of knowledge management even in Universities which knowledge is regarded as the foundation of their business process. Further, it assumes that culture plays an important role, to which they have tendency to follow top-down direction, affected by surrounding environment rather than initiating to exploit one’s own capability. CONCLUSIONS: IT Infrastructure Resource positively and significantly influences organizational culture in universities. IT Human Resource has positive and significant influence on organizational culture in universities. IT infrastructure does not give positive and significant influence on Knowledge Management Capabilities. Organizational Culture of Universities has positive and significant influence on the culture of Knowledge Management Capabilities. Future research should explore how organizational culture acts as a moderating variable since there is an assumption from other research that organizational culture can act as a variable that strengthens or weakens the relationship among human resource management variable and the performance of the companies. Abstract: BACKGROUND: In the last few decades, the rural bank has a focus of both researchers and policy-makers as it plays a crucial role in promoting the welfare of lower-income groups in most of the underdeveloped and developing countries, including Indonesia. However, as the newly established micro-financing institutions, as compared to the well-established large-scale commercial banks in the country, these micro-financing institutions have been perceived to have a lower level of competitiveness and performance. OBJECTIVE: Thus, this study explores and analyzes factors of core competency, innovation, and reputation in determining the competitiveness and performance of the rural banks (Bank …Perkreditan Rakyat - BPRs ) in Aceh, Indonesia. It also attempts to empirically investigate and analyze the mediated effect of competitive advantage on the influences of core competency, innovation, and reputation on performance of the BPRs in the country. METHODS: 350 employees at the 16 BPRs in 7 districts in Aceh province, Indonesia were selected as respondents of the study using the stratified random sampling technique. The study used the structural equation modeling analysis to examine the interrelationships among the variables, to answer the objectives of the study. RESULTS: The study found a positive influence of the core competency, innovation, and reputation on the BPRs’ competitive advantage. Except for the BPRs’ reputation, all variables positively affected the BPRs’ performance. Finally, the study found a significant partial mediated effect of competitive advantage on the relationship between core competency and innovation to the BPRs’ performance and a significant full mediated effect of competitive advantage on the relationship between reputation and the BPRs’ performance. CONCLUSIONS: These findings imply that all efforts to enhance the BPRs’ performance should be focused on the improvement of competitive advantage based on enhancing the competency, innovation, and reputation of the BPRs. Abstract: BACKGROUND: Among the 1.1 billion global smokers about 80% of them live in developing countries, and nearly 7 million of those smokers will die by 2030, including 2 million-plus in China alone. China produces and consumes about one-third of global tobacco products, which affects nearly 80% of China’s total population. Currently, largely-applied programs can aid in saving millions of Chinese citizens from tobacco menaces. Two of such programs are the WHO MPOWER and FCTC programs on tobacco control. OBJECTIVE: This study proposes the assimilation and conjoint uses of quick response code (QRC) and mobile health (mHealth) technologies to …aid smokers in cessation by improving their health beliefs. The study is also viable to estimate the likelihood that smokers will cut/quit smoking due to their changes in health beliefs. METHODS: Since digital technologies play a crucial role in health-care education, ergo, we programmed anti-tobacco QR codes and mHealth application, the conjoint uses of both these two tools aim to improve smokers’ comprehension of tobacco perils and assist them to overcome their perceived barriers related to cessation and attain the perceived benefits of quitting. The health belief model theory was adopted and 600 English-speaking students were recruited as a convenient sample of participants in this study. RESULTS: The obtained results suggest that both printing the proposed anti-tobacco codes on cigarette packaging and adoption of mHealth can assist experts in improving the health beliefs of smokers towards smoking-cessation acceptance. CONCLUSION: This study will aid experts as technology compliance in accordance with the WHO MPOWER and FCTC programs on tobacco control in China. Show more

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: Human resources management and organization studies. This paper investigates the main barriers of organizational inclusion practices of academics in Egyptian higher education institutions, and proposes interventions to enhance academics’ sense of organizational inclusion. METHODS: A total of 350 academics were contacted and 245 of them were interviewed in 49 face-to-face focus groups. The interview length for each focus group is about 45 minutes and is conducted in Arabic, the mother tongue of all respondents. Upon conducting the interviews, the authors used thematic analysis to determine the main ideas in the transcripts. RESULTS: After carefully analyzing …the interviews, the authors of this paper could not identify any adoptable paradigm for the systematic practice of organizational inclusion experienced by academics in the chosen business schools. Moreover, the authors of the present paper have explored some barriers hindering the sense of organizational inclusion among academics and subsequently classified them as cultural, functional and psychological barriers. CONCLUSION: The authors propose three prompt managerial interventions for Egyptian public business schools. The first is economic, and proposes a link be created between the financial remuneration of professors and the number of academic theses they supervise. The second is functional, and strongly recommends that units be created for managing foreign educational grants and scholarships. The third is cultural, and proposes that cultural tolerance units be required to manage any discriminatory and unequal opportunity claims. This paper contributes by filling a gap in HR management in the higher education sector, in which empirical studies on the practices of organizational inclusion have been limited so far. Show more

Abstract: BACKGROUND: The improvement of psychic well-being and mental health prevention in the workplace are high on the European agenda. OBJECTIVE: The study aimed to perform a construct validation of the previously developed short forms of the Psychological General Well-Being Index (PGWBI) on the working population and to identify the possible individual and work-related characteristics that co-shape individual perceptions of well-being. METHODS: A cross-sectional, quantitative study design was utilized. A standardized instrument and its four short forms developed in previous studies were used. The sample included 376 employees from larger companies of one Slovenian region. Exploratory and …confirmatory factor analysis and multiple linear regression were performed. RESULTS: The short form that shows the best fit in this study sample is the PGWBI-B with RMSEA = 0.063; CFI = 0.986; SRMR = 0.026; NNFI = 0.977 and CI = 0.982. The significant independent variables were educational level (p < 0.001) and the average number of working hours per week (p = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The study proved that working conditions are correlated with employees’ well-being. Further validation of the PGWBI short forms should be performed with parallel and work context-specific measures of well-being to assess their concurrent validity. The monitoring of general employee well-being should become a regular practice in work organisations. Show more
