Abstract: Wireless mesh networks have emerged as high-performance and cost-effective approaches to extending the coverage area of wireless local networks and providing last-mile broadband Internet access. In this paper, we develop an analytical model to investigate delay, loss rate, and performance metrics of central mode of IEEE 802.16d mesh structure. Two well-known scenarios are selected for simulations: BS-centered and BS-cornered scenarios. In the first scenario, the base station is located at the center of the network; while in the second one, the base station is located at one the four corners of the network. In this analytical model, two major delay constraints namely queuing and scheduling delay which affect the end-to-end delay of the system have been considered. It has been shown that the height of the network is limited due to the constant frame duration. Meanwhile, the position of the BS is considered in the analysis. The simulations conducted to measure the average end-to-end delay confirm the results obtained by the analysis.
