Abstract: Objectives: The NEO-Five Factor Inventory by Costa and McCrae is widely used to economically assess central personality traits as Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness for experience, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness. But so far, no population based norms for the German version of this questionnaire were available. The aim of this study was to provide norms for the German NEO-FFI. Methods: The data were drawn from a national survey of the German population (N=1.908; aged from 18 to 96 years) in November 1999. Results: Percentile ranks and stanines are reported as general standard scores of the NEO-Five Factor Inventory as well as scores specific to age and gender. Conclusion: Population norms as references for individual scores are provided for the well-established German NEO-FFI.
