Abstract: In this paper, we present a magneto-thermal model of an interior-permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM) for electrical vehicle. Both magnetic and thermal field aspects are described based on 2-D finite element method (FEM). For accurate estimation of heat sources in the machine, we analyzed harmonic iron loss using variable loss coefficients and magnet loss in the electromagnetic field. In addition, we estimated convective exchange coefficient considering water-cooling system of the machine. Finally, experimental results on 60 kW, 3600 rpm are reported and compared with the simulation results.
Keywords: Electric vehicle, finite element method, iron loss, interior permanent magnet synchronous machine, water-cooling system.
