Abstract: This paper presents a modeling approach to characterize adjacent cracks on underground gas pipe. Electrical potential method is used for capturing signals from surface cracks on the gas pipe. A three dimensional potential problem is considered for the inspection model. A defect parameter-to-output mapping is represented by means of finite element method in three dimensions. Computational methods for sizing and positioning of cracks are proposed based on our modeling approach.
