Abstract: For realization of a commercial fusion power plant, the remountable HTS magnet was proposed as one of the technologies to reduce both construction and maintenance costs. The butt joint of HTS cable has been investigated for the concept. In this study, the joint performance is evaluated with changing joint area, normal stress and shear stress on the joint surface to investigate an optimum joint condition. The experimental results show that the joint performance is improved by forming the optimum joint surface configuration where the normal stress becomes large while the shear stress is suppressed to be smaller than the normal stress.
