Abstract: A giant-magnetoimpedance-based biosensor prototype was designed and tested by using simple glass-coated amorphous microwires and copolymer-functionalized glass-coated amorphous microwires as sensing elements, as well as two different types of magnetic microparticles as perturbating agents for the external d.c. magnetic field. The influence of the two types of microparticles and the geometry of the d.c. excitation external magnetic field on the magneto-impedance (MI) of the amorphous microwire have been studied. This type of magnetic biosensor prototype will be useful in biomolecule detection techniques.
