Abstract: Although previous studies of decision making have been published, those involving a cognitive style variable and individual differences have not been performance related in the sense of comparing the decision-making performance of one type of manager to that of another. Rather, the studies examined attitudes toward some elements of decision making, e.g. attitude toward risk. In this exploratory study a production environment was simulated via a computer game to examine the relative decision-making performance of different cognitive types of decision makers. Results showed that the performance of decision makers did vary by cognitive type and some cognitive types outperformed others at the operational level of decision making with a moderately-well-structured decision task.
