Abstract: In a large number of engineering applications, the optimization of magnets’ shape is required. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the geometries involved, the computing burden can be too high, making the task unfeasible. Here, a shape optimization model is proposed, based on the discretization of the research domain; in this way, the optimization task is reduced to the search for of the optimal shape among all the possible compositions of elementary shapes in the research domain. The proposed technique gives a strong reduction of the computing burden whereas preserving the accuracy needed.
