Abstract: New ferromagnetic shape memory alloys have been developed by means of melt spinning technique. The alloys are multi-functional materials, which have both ferromagnetic property and shape memory property. In order to append the ferromagnetic function of nonmagnetic Fe-Mn-Cr alloys, we have selected neodymium as an addition element. The magnetic properties of the alloys are improved by adding neodymium, however the shape memory properties are deteriorated at the same time. Also the Curie temperature shows increasing tendency in proportion to the neodymium contentes. After many trials and measurements, we have sought out an alloy consisting of Fe-26%Mn-10%Cr-5%Si-0.7%Nd-0.2%B [wt%], which has good ferromagnetic and shape memory property. In this paper, the suitable heat treatment is made clear in measurements to raise the saturation magnetization in preserving the perfect shape memory recovery.
