Abstract: Various explanations have been advanced to account for the Japanese managerial success. Most of these explanations, however, entail a segmentary view of Japanese management, highlighting a particular managerial or environmental factor while disregarding the intricate interdependencies among Japanese managerial principles and environmental variables. The present paper represents an attempt to analyze some of these relationships. Implications for the transferability of the Japanese model are proposed.
