Abstract: In the present scenario, logistics play a fundamental role in rationalizing manufacturing activities and business-to-business linkages. In this view, the paper focuses on the main topics dealing with: – the contribution of tailored logistics to develop advanced production systems based on multiple location and customer-supplier partnership; – the most significant factors to be considered for analyzing logistics network, with special reference to the freight transportation system; – the efficiency and quality grade which have to be achieved, aiming at assuring the customer full satisfaction; – the reference schema which can be applied in order to design, realize, and operate the logistics Quality System, considering the different constraints which occur in managing and improving the quality of production organizations; – the set of indicators which allow to assess logistics effectiveness, efficiency and quality performances and to evaluate the effects on manufacturing in relation to quality, costs, and serviceability.
