Abstract: Fundamental principles from Schumpeter's Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy (1942), and Weber's The Theory of Social and Economic Development (1921) are offered as frameworks within which to examine the current status of emerging free market economies in Central Europe. This examination suggests that entrepreneurs and small businesses may be key ingredients to the successful unfreezing of these recently socialist markets, and while much progress has been made to facilitate free markets, many obstacles remain.
