Revitalize connections
One week from today, I will be on a flight to the American Occupational Therapy Association’s AOTA INSPIRE 2022 Annual Conference & Expo in San Antonio, Texas. It is my first attendance at a conference since before March 2020 when the AOTA conference was cancelled in Boston because of COVID-19. Prior to the pandemic, I routinely participated in the annual conference where I had the opportunity to attend continuing education seminars, scientific research and technology panels, posters, short courses, tech labs, workshops and special events such as the Eleanor Clarke Slagle Lecture. And of course, it was an opportunity to network with colleagues. This 2022 conference offers the opportunity to revitalize connections with colleagues, some of whom are authors of papers published in WORK or are on our Editorial Board. IOS Press, the publisher of WORK, will have a booth at the conference and it will be the first time that Axana Scherbeijn, Associate Publisher at IOS Press, and I will meet in person! At the same time as the conference, it is the 35th anniversary of IOS Press. I would like to take this opportunity to share my congratulations as this anniversary is celebrated both in person and virtually.
This issue introduces a new quarterly column, Work in Social Entrepreneurship (W.I.S.E.) written by Tomeico Faison. In each column, Tomeico will interview a social entrepreneur leader such as Iris Kimberg who is featured in this issue. I know you will thoroughly enjoy learning about social entrepreneurs.
Also contained in this issue are five articles that address COVID-19. The Editor’s Choice article is, Employment related barriers and facilitators for people with psychiatric disabilities in Spain which is among the 30 additional papers on topics such as breast cancer survivorship and employment, work-related stress, health and safety determinants in wineries, factors associated with requesting accommodations among people with multiple sclerosis, musculoskeletal disorders among sonographers and veterinary healthcare professions among many other topics.
Malala Yousafzai’s words, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream” resonates with me as I wish farewell to Mandy Nardone as my Editor’s Assistant as she becomes a new mother; and to Editorial Board member and blog author Jenny Long who will take up a full-time position as a Technical Writer with Standards Australia. My gratitude and best wishes are shared with Mandy and Jenny.
