Abstract: This paper focuses on the psychological issues arising from late onset of stammering in adults. These issues are discussed firstly in relation to one female client, a student nurse who began stammering at the age of 21. In the second part of the paper the management of the psychological issues is considered and a number of guidelines are proposed for clinicians within a personal construct psychology framework.
