Abstract: Any complete hypergroup H can be characterized by an ordered m-tuple of natural numbers, representing the cardinalities of the subsets of H that divide it in a specific partition. In this paper we determine necessary and sufficient conditions concerning the corresponding m-tuples such that a particular intuitionistic fuzzy set (that is the key element in determining the intuitionistic fuzzy grade of a hypergroup) is an intuitionistic fuzzy subhypergroup of special complete hypergroups, those obtained from a group isomorphic with the additive group of integers modulo a prime number, or modulo the double of a prime number.

Abstract: The paper proposes the concepts of a single valued neutrosophic linguistic set (SVNLS) and a single valued neutrosophic linguistic number (SVNLN) as a further generalization of the concepts of a linguistic variable, an intuitionistic linguistic set and an intuitionistic linguistic number (ILN). Then, we introduce the basic operational rules of SVNLNs and define a generalized distance measure between SVNLNs. Furthermore, we develop an extended TOPSIS method for a multiple attribute group decision making problem based on the SVNLNs under single valued neutrosophic linguistic environment. Finally, an illustrative example of investment alternatives and the comparative analysis are given to demonstrate the …application and effectiveness of the developed approach. Show more

Abstract: The linear programming technique for multidimensional analysis of preference (LINMAP) and the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) are two well-known methods for dealing with the multiple attribute decision making (MADM) problems. In this paper, we further extend the LINMAP to accommodate hesitant fuzzy environment and propose a new approach to solve the MADM problems with hesitant fuzzy information. Then, an integrated method that combines the LINMAP and TOPSIS is developed. In this methodology, we take advantage of the LINMAP to determine the attribute weights objectively and thus overcome the drawbacks of the TOPSIS. Meanwhile the …TOPSIS that considers both the positive ideal solution (PIS) and the negative ideal solution (NIS) can make up the disadvantages of the LINMAP. In order to measure consistency and inconsistency between the ranking order of alternatives and the decision maker's preference, two indices based on PIS and NIS are defined. Moreover, a linear programming model that can be used for minimizing the total inconsistency is constructed to determine the attribute weights. By using the TOPSIS, we obtain the most appropriate alternative. Finally, two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the implementation process of the developed approach. Show more

Abstract: Economic dispatch (ED) problem is a significant and precious strategy in the power engineering to preserve the balance between the load and generation in an economic way. The practical ED incorporates a non-convex objective function with several equality and inequality nonlinear constraints. As a result, solving the practical ED requires a powerful optimizer to reach the most economic dispatch solution. This paper suggests a newly introduced algorithm called Krill Herd (KH) to solve the practical ED problem considering the valve-loading effects, prohibited operating zone, spinning reserve and multi-fuel option, optimally. Also, a new modification method based on the Levy Flight …movement is suggested to increase the convergence of the KH algorithm. The suggested algorithm is applied to two small size and one large size test system to demonstrate its high search ability. Show more

Abstract: In this paper, we report the development of a method for forecasting enrollments at the University of Alabama using the harmony search algorithm and fuzzy time series. In recent years, researchers have proposed many methods of forecasting, including forecasting enrollments at the University of Alabama or financial markets such as FOREX. In recent research efforts, it was determined that the lengths of the intervals in the universe of discourse and forecasting rules influence the accuracy of forecasting. Some forecasting methods use meta-heuristic algorithms (such as the genetic algorithm) to determine the optimum length of the intervals in the universe of …discourse. In this paper, we propose a new, meta-heuristic algorithm (i.e., the harmony search algorithm) that is based on a high-order, fuzzy time series and overlapping intervals. In previous methods, it was assumed that the universe of discourse is partitioned into separate intervals that do not overlap. Here, it is shown that overlapping intervals in the universe of discourse can influence the accuracy of forecasted values. Show more

Abstract: In power systems, reliability evaluations mainly depend on the precise forecasting of the reliability parameters of the internal components. Nonetheless, the procedure of calculating the reliability parameters such as failure rate and repair rate parameters is based on the failure statistics and measurements which can cause much inherent uncertainty and thus affecting the reliability indices of the system. Therefore, the main purpose of this work is to suggest a sufficient and easy-implemented approach based on scenario production to capture the uncertainty of the reliability parameters including the failure rate and repair rate variables. Here, the scenario generation process is constructed …using the roulette wheel mechanism along with the probability density function of the random variables. Then, the proposed scenario based approach makes use of a scenario reduction mechanism to avoid high computational burden. This aspect of the proposed stochastic framework makes it useful for the optimization applications which require iterative analysis. In order to see the feasibility and satisfying performance of the proposed framework, an IEEE standard test system is used as the case study. Show more

Abstract: The key objective of this paper is to give a detailed account on rehabilitation of RC beams by means of a composite created with natural fibre called jute. For the sake of experimentation, seven under-reinforced beam specimens are cast with size of 2000 mm × 100 mm × 150 mm. One beam is permitted to perform as control specimen without any external wrapping and it is tested for its final load. The other six beams are loaded up to a pre-fixed level up to first crack. Then rehabilitation is performed by outwardly wrapping natural fibre (jute) reinforced polymer composites to …the beam under various schemes. Their feat is contrasted with beams outwardly wrapped with Glass fibre reinforced polymer composites. Beams are tested under static load condition up to failure. The load, mid-span deflection and cracking pattern are vigilantly observed and estimated for the control beam and rehabilitated beams. Show more

Abstract: In this paper, we develop a new method for Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy decision making problems. We present the Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy probabilistic ordered weighted distance (IFPOWD) operator. Its main advantage is that it uses distance measures in a unified framework between the probability and the OWA operator that considers the degree of importance of each concept in the aggregation. Moreover, it is able to deal with uncertain environments represented in the form of Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy information. We analyze the applicability of this new approach in a group decision making problem concerning selection of investments.

Abstract: Fuzzy sets have led to study of vague phenomena. Generalizations of fuzzy sets have led to deeper analysis of these types of studies. The problem that then arises is to finding quantitative measures for vagueness and other features of these phenomena. In the present paper, based on the concept of R-norm fuzzy entropy, an R-norm intuitionistic fuzzy entropy measure is proposed in the setting of intuitionistic fuzzy set theory. This measure is a generalized version of R-norm fuzzy entropy proposed by Hooda in 2004. Some properties of this measure are proved. Finally, a numerical example is given to show that …the proposed entropy measure for intuitionistic fuzzy set is reasonable by comparing it with other existing intuitionistic fuzzy entropy measures.
