The Cochrane Corners in NeuroRehabilitation: A Cochrane Rehabilitation initiative

1Introduction

As co-editors-in-chief of NeuroRehabilitation, we are very pleased to announce, with our colleagues from Cochrane, a working affiliation with Cochrane Rehabilitation (http://rehabilitation.cochrane.org/). The affiliation was constructed to improve evidence-based neurorehabilitation practice. Knowledge translation (KT), as recently defined by the related Cochrane strategy (Cochrane, 2017), is at the core of Cochrane Rehabilitation (Negrini, Gimigliano, Arienti, & Kiekens, 2018). One of the primary goals of the Cochrane KT strategy, Cochrane Rehabilitation developed the “Cochrane Corner” initiative for rehabilitation relevant scientific journals. The aims of this effort are to disseminate Cochrane evidence to a broader audience in summary fashion and to facilitate implementation of evidence based practices in our neurorehabiliation work. We have therefore agreed to facilitate dissemination of these summaries of Cochrane Systematic Reviews (CSRs) in NeuroRehabilitation under the “Cochrane Corners” column. We believe that “Cochrane Corners” will be of great interest to the readers of NeuroRehabilitationand will not only complement our current cutting edge content, but also facilitate further progress in evidence-based practice in neurological rehabilitation.

2Cochrane Rehabilitation

Cochrane (https://www.cochrane.org/) is a network of professionals committed to using high-quality information to make health decisions. The vision is a world of improved health where decisions are informed by high-quality, relevant, and up-to-date synthesized research evidence. For this reason, Cochrane produces and disseminates systematic reviews of healthcare interventions and promotes the search for evidence in the form of clinical trials and other studies. Cochrane is organized into diverse groups with different aims: Review Groups manage systematic reviews production; Method Groups develop the best methodology to produce evidence; Centers and Fields provide KT with a national/regional or topic-related focus, respectively. As also mentioned earlier, the “Cochrane KT Strategy” has the main aim to disseminate and use the evidence produced by Cochrane in clinical practice and decision-making (Cochrane, 2017).

3Conclusion and call for authors

A ‘call for authors of CSR summaries” received broad acceptance (Cochrane Rehabilitation, 2018). Many experts in diverse areas in rehabilitation will be authoring CSR summaries with comments. We encourage readers of NeuroRehabilitation to contribute to this effort to enhance the evidence-based knowledge and practice in our everchanging field of healthcare.
