Preface
On July 4–7, 2021 it was our great pleasure to host the second joint conference of the three major societies that focus on the rheology of blood, cells and tissues: The European Society for Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation (ESCHM), The International Society for Clinical Hemorheology (ISCH) and The International Society of Biorheology (ISB). This meeting was held in a virtual format. The meeting program can be viewed on-line at http://www.congre.co.jp/eschm-isch-isb2021/index-2.html. Oral presentations were live-streamed and have been saved for viewing by registered participants until the end of December 2021, as an on-demand archive.
This online meeting covered a wide range of topics in biorheology, hemorheology and microcirculation from basic experiments to computational flow visualization and clinical investigations. Holding such an invaluable academic and scientific meeting provided a good opportunity to share ideas and experiences with many international scientists without travelling overseas.
The online meeting program contains a virtual tour of Fukuoka, the principal venue for the on-line hosts. Fukuoka is a gateway city to Asia and hosts the traditional Japanese summer festival of Hakata Gion Yamakasa, which is concurrent with our meeting. We believe that this unique and challenging joint meeting proposes a new model and standard for future international online meetings that takes global time zones into account. We are most appreciative of the efforts made by all participants in making this meeting a success and look forward to sharing the results with the scientific community.
