Abstract: The effects of compressive strain holding on the high-temperature low-cycle fatigue life of austenitic, martensitic and bainitic steels were investigated. The effects were scarcely observed in austentic steels, but were clearly observed in martensitic and bainitic steels. We conclude that life reduction following compressive strain holding is attributable to oxidation effects and the stress ratio that results from the asymmetric wave shape.
