Abstract: Professor Takeo Yokobori passed away in the autumn of 2017 with a hundred years of brilliant life. As the founding president and honorary president of the International Congress on Fracture (ICF), he is a great and well-respected scientist. His academic heritage is beneficial to the international fracture community. His academic achievements and wisdom have led and nourished the ICF, making it a scientific, democratic and harmonious academic community from the date of its establishment in 1965 and guiding it towards a new future. As early as in the 1950s, Professor Yokobori proposed a micro-to-macroscopic approach for fracture studies, which boosted academic exchange and collaboration between material scientists and researchers of fracture mechanics. As a consequence, the ICF had gathered a large number of researchers engaged in mechanics and material sciences right after its establishment.
