Note: [1] Johan Heldal is a mathematical statistician working as a senior executive in the Methods Unit of the Central Bureau of Statistics of Norway where he is employed since eight years ago. His main assignments are quality control and combined use of sample surveys, censuses and registers.
Note: [2] Anders Rygb Swensen was born 1949. He graduated in statistics from University of Oslo 1975 and got his Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley 1980. During the period 1981–83 he was employed as a research associate at the Norwegian Telecommunications Administration. Since 1984 he is with the Methods Unit, Central Bureau of Statistics of Norway.
Note: [3] Ib Thomsen was born 1939. He graduated in statistics from University of Oslo 1967. Since 1975 he is head of the Methods Unit, Central Bureau of Statistics of Norway.
Abstract: At the Central Bureau of Statistics of Norway the feasibility of producing census statistics through combined use of surveys and registers has been studied since 1985. Different methods for combining information from registers and surveys have been investigated in order to produce census statistics of satisfactory quality.
