Abstract: The growing quantities of waste materials from production and consumption of industrial commodities receive special attention by Czechoslovakian authorities. A statistical survey was undertaken in 1982, which provided data on the quantities of industrial wastes generated in production as well as on the extent to which such wastes were recycled. Mineral wastes account for more than 90 per cent of total solid wastes, and overburden from lignite open-cast mining is by far its most significant component. Recycling remains at present unsatisfactory particularly for this category of waste. By contrast, recycling of metal scraps is practiced widely. Future improvement in recycling is expected from current experiments with a recycling register.
