Abstract: The software architecture of the State Central Statistical Office (SCSO) of the German Democratic Republic derives from the general data processing requirements in the Office. The present software architecture includes the usual components data base software, data evaluation software, data aggregates and data editing software. The envisaged future developments of the software extend to data editing, data base management and data evaluation. Possible solutions to the problems raised by the introduction of a more complex and powerful software are obtained on the basis of their careful analysis in the context of the operations carried out by the SCSO.
