Trade and environment: multilateral institutions and sustainable development

Abstract: Environmental problems require multilateral solutions rather than unilateral ones. Several multilateral environmental agreements exist, and each has its own institutional mechanism. This study examines the provisions of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in the context of the environment with a view to understand the lessons that can be drawn from the multilateral trade negotiations for the sustainable development context.
