Abstract: Methemoglobinaemia is an infrequent cause of neonatal cyanosis. Methemoglobinaemia can be life threatening. Rapid diagnosis and early treatment of methemoglobinaemia are life-saving. Methemoglobinemia occurs following the intake of some drugs and some foods or water that contain high levels of nitrate, gastrointestinal infection and sepsis. We report a case of methemoglobinemia associated with Staphylococcus aureus sepsis in a newborn.
