Abstract: Function solving is the most creative phase of product design. Design knowledge modeling is the basis of computer aided products innovation design. Concept semantics establishes contact between design knowledge modeling and function solving. The concept semantics driven computer aided product innovation design was presented. The design knowledge model based on the design process model is helpful for product innovation designs. The MFBS design knowledge model was established and the design knowledge ontology model was built with a sextuple structure to achieve the product design knowledge system. The design knowledge ontology mapping algorithm was designed with the hierarchical progression FBS ontology mapping strategy to realize function solving. The concept semantics driven product design was achieved by single property retrieval, multi-property retrieval, combined multi-property retrieval, and multi-property reasoning. The variant function unit and behavior were learned with the theory of variant space. The concept semantics driven product innovation design was achieved by design knowledge ontology mapping with the variant function unit and behavior. A design example of the multi-rope diamond wire saw showed the correctness and validity of the concept semantics driven computer-aided product innovation design.
