Abstract: The goal of this paper is to introduce a preliminary emission model in order evaluate and compare the environmental load of various advanced small or personal aircraft configurations. The paper first gives the motivations behind the European small aircraft related projects / investigations, and summarizes some of the most promising configurations, developed in the European Commission funded personal aircraft project. It also introduces (i) the preliminary method of the emission modeling, (ii) the developed user interface that facilitates the access to the model even for non-experts, and (iii) the calculated environmental loads related to various personal aircraft configurations and missions in terms of CO, HC and NOx. Finally, purely from an environmental point of view, it provides basic recommendations and proposals for future development of the personal aircraft segment.
