Editorial

The present edition of Intelligenza Artificiale includes what I find to be a very high quality paper by Nicola Olivetti and Gian Luca Pozzato: “Nested Sequent Calculi and Theorem Proving for Normal Conditional Logics: the theorem prover NESCOND” as well as a Special Issue on Agents and Multi-agent Systems: from Objects to Agents, with guest editors Claudia Di Napoli and Silvia Rossi. The special issue includes a number of papers of sure interest for our readers, and I want to thank the guest editors for putting together this well-rounded collection of papers.

This is the last edition for which I will be Editor-in-Chief of the journal. Just before writing these final words I have had the pleasure of seeing that Intelligenza Artificiale, the International Journal of the AI*IA, has been included in the ISI Web of Science. This happens five years after the President of AI*IA asked me to start an international journal. I accepted for a limited period of three years but then, also by request of the new President Amedeo Cesta, I felt I had to continue a couple of more years. We knew our journal had been publishing high quality papers, reviewed by some of the best experts in our community. We also made a point of coming out with our issues on time.

Now the journal is established and I can only hope that more and more of the best practitioners in AI will aim at contributing to it. This will be both the most important element of success for the journal and a distinguished element of prestige for AI*IA.

I conclude by thanking all those who I have collaborated with over these five years: most of all authors and guest editors, then associate editor Roberto Pirrone, the members of the Editorial Board (some more and some less active ...), and the members of the Scientific Board. Bedankt also to Maarten Fröhlich of IOS Press, with whom it has always been a pleasureto interact.

Fabrizio Riguzzi will now take the position of Editor-in-Chief. To him go my best wishes for the ever growing visibility and success of our journal. Buon lavoro!
