Abstract: Norsk Hydro Information Services was originally organised as traditional information services. This paper describes important milestones in an evolutionary process from a Documentation Service Centre to a Competence Centre. In this process, the “users” become customers and all products and information services must satisfy customer needs. An Information Management Consultants Unit, based on professional competence as the main product, has been established.
