Abstract: Teams offer the potential of diverse members pooling information in such a way that better decisions are made and actions taken. Accordingly team success often depends on effective information gathering. However, communication difficulties arise from the different frameworks of team members. Understanding the different frames that team members have can improve our understanding of decision making and improve information seeking. Developing an unique common ground framework within which the team can operate becomes one solution for improving collaborative information seeking in interprofessional health care teams that develop diagnoses and treatment plans. Four frameworks, formal, informal, markets, and professional, are particularly important for the operation of these teams which must develop their own, at times unique, approach to developing an internal framework that provides them with a common ground in which they can collaborate in their information seeking.
