Abstract: Developing countries have not been in the mainstream in adopting information technology. They have been bedeviled with a number of infrastructural problems. Events in the recent past have dictated that adequate use of information can enhance the development of national resources and could help in establishing national administrative efficiency. This paper examines the prospects for introducing information technology in Nigeria. It analyses the advantages of such an introduction while taking a critical look at possible obstacles which might impede a successful implementation. It takes the view that despite obvious difficulties, the time to embrace these new technologies is now. This is because the development of information technology is essential in improving the standards of functionally available services in the Nigerian society, and is a useful catalyst for socio-economic development.
