Abstract: There is no suggestion that our experiences at Glasgow have been in any way unique, or that we have managed the new opportunities using particularly revolutionary, or successful, methods, but it may be of interest to document the evolutionary path taken by a particular institution, faced with rapid and continually developing changes in a particular, very important, aspect of scholarly communication. This article does not draw to any great extent on existing literature, but is purely a description of activities in a single institution.
