FIES: Financial Information Extraction System

Abstract: With information explosion from the Internet, there is a need to efficiently determine the relevance of information. This paper discusses an approach to extracting information using lexical scanning techniques to produce a series of templates. The chosen domain for this application is Financial news. During news retrieval, templates extracting the essence of the news reports will be automatically produced. This paper presents the design and implementation of the FIES system. The paper further describes the evaluation which was carried out, the results obtained and the limitations of the system.
