Abstract: Libraries are increasingly offering adult literacy services as a part of their normal operations. For the most part, library schools are just beginning to provide education and training for librarians who work, or who will work, in adult literacy services in the library. This article briefly discusses the development of adult literacy services, particularly in libraries. It outlines the structure and content of a course developed at San Jose State University's School of Library and Information Science. The course provides adult literacy education for librarians and includes practical training at a library literacy site. The work undertaken by students at several sites is discussed, and feedback from literacy coordinators involved with the course is included.
