The purpose of the Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems: Applications in Engineering and Technology is to foster advancements of knowledge and help disseminate results concerning recent applications and case studies in the areas of fuzzy logic, intelligent systems, and web-based applications among working professionals and professionals in education and research, covering a broad cross-section of technical disciplines.

Abstract: SWOT is a much utilized tool for identifying, gathering, interpreting and assessing internal and external data based on four key-variables (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats). Developed by Harvard Business School during the 1960 s, SWOT has been criticized on several grounds for being a top-down approach for gathering data; for creating a separation between those who think and those who do; for downplaying emergent strategies during the process of experimentation as opposed to intended strategies, and for neglecting anticipated future situations as opposed to current ones. In an attempt to remedy such weaknesses, this paper proposes two explorative frameworks similar …to SWOT both in number of components and in utility. The first is PEAK where the components stand for: Power, Earnings, Artistry or Activity and Knowledge. The second is SETS where the components stand for: Solidity, Extent, Type and Segment or specialization. Abstract: In this paper we present the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the stochastic problem to determine two phase level of gas and water in the industrial pipeline. In order to distinguish the level phase in a vessel such as high, medium, and low a mechanism of Gaussian Filter Method was proposed in this study. The k-weights of the statistical features were adjusting by the k-NN Classifier and separate the categories for training from the various parameters. Within this study, 6 statistical used features were employed for training. In addition, a time-frequency parameter obtained by continuous signal was also used …to identify the pulse during the recognition process. For the classification of all phase level, the average accuracy was higher than 90.0% for the whole data set. Finally, in order to provides the opportunity of obtaining quantitative and real time data on two phase media within a full scale industrial process, such as filtration, without the need of processes interruption, tomography methods answer it all. Abstract: In this article we introduce the notions of I-convergent and I-bounded difference sequences of fuzzy real numbers. We study different properties of I-convergent, I-null and I-bounded difference sequence spaces of fuzzy real numbers like completeness, solidness, monotone, symmetricity, sequence algebra, convergence free, nowhere denseness. We prove some inclusion results also.

Abstract: The non-payment rate has been one of the main problems faced by the electric power distribution utilities. It is therefore essential that the utilities provide a methodology to assess the capability of a residential consumer to pay on time his/her electricity bill. As such, the utility will be able to simulate strategies and mitigate the risk of non-payment. This article presents a proposal based on fuzzy logic approach to compute a “Payment Capability Index” (PCI) for residential customers. A spatial view of PCI is provided by illustrative maps obtained by Geographic Information System (GIS).

Abstract: Job evaluation is the process of systematically determining a relative internal value of a job in an organization. The most widespread method applied in job evaluation process is the point-factor method. In this method, for determining the worth of a job, a set of compensable factors are identified. In this study, a fuzzy multi-criteria approach is developed for job evaluation. In the first stage, factors are weighted by using a Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (F-AHP) method. Afterwards, the obtained weights are used in the Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (F-TOPSIS) for scoring jobs. Abstract: Increasing growth of task-oriented texts specifically in organizations, have become a catastrophe nowadays. To overcome this problem, potential classification methods are improved. This paper outlines the capability of neuro-fuzzy approach and artificial immune recognition systems to enhance task-oriented texts classification. Task-oriented texts stand for various kinds of texts which are organized to help the users with their different tasks such as: research, development, learning, justification, innovation and analysis. In this respect, seven major attributes with three nominal values of low, medium and high are considered to classify text into six task classes. To illustrate the capabilities of proposed approaches, Takagi-Sugeno …as a neuro-fuzzy approach using lolimot learning algorithm, is compared with multilayer perceptron (MLP), and Radial Basis Function (RBF). In the meantime, various versions of Artificial Immune Recognition Systems (AIRS) including AIRS1, AIRS2, Parallel AIRS and Modified AIRS with Fuzzy K-Nearest neighbor (Fuzzy-KNN) are also evaluated in comparison with the above mentioned algorithms to classify the same text. The experimental results of classification on a dataset of 540 data reveals that, due to the distributed characteristics of a text, and the complexity of tasks respectively, evolutionary and neuro-fuzzy methods are expected to be particularly workable and successfully applicable to task-oriented text classification specifically for the purpose of decision support. Abstract: In order to improve the performance of the banknote image classification, new feature extraction method based on quaternion wavelet transform (QWT) is proposed in this article. The QWT yields one shift-invariant magnitude and three phases by the quaternion algebra. The statistical characteristics such as mean, standard deviation and entropy are used as feature vector in the banknote image classification. The experimental results show that the proposed method by the QWT obtains better classification results than the conventional methods.

Abstract: We investigate the multiple attribute group decision making (MAGDM) problems in which the attribute values take the form of linguistic variables. Motivated by the ideal of power aggregation (R.R. Yager, The power average operator, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Part A 31 (2001) 724–731), in this paper, we develop some power aggregation operators for aggregating 2-tuple linguistic information, and then apply them to develop some models for multiple attribute group decision making with linguistic information. Finally, some illustrative examples are given to verify the developed approach and to demonstrate its practicality and effectiveness.

Abstract: Quality function deployment (QFD) is a well-known customer driven technique for planning and designing a new product. To address the inner-relationship and inter-relationship among QFD components, several researchers applied fuzzy analytic network process (fuzzy ANP) to QFD. Their approaches focus on determining important engineering characteristics, but neglect the subsequent prototype product evaluation. Moreover, the weight of the elements in their supermatrices is represented by crisp values rather than fuzzy numbers. To address the two issues, this paper develops an integrated product design and evaluation method that can effectively identify important engineering characteristics and select the best prototype product. The proposed …method uses two-stage QFD charts to identify customer requirements, engineering characteristics, and evaluation attributes. A fuzzy analytical network process method is developed to derive QFD component weights in terms of fuzzy numbers.
