Abstract: Five-year and annual statistical plans and programmes play an important role in the system of State statistical bodies in Czechoslovakia. They are regularly prepared by the Federal Statistical Office, together with the Czech and Slovak Statistical Offices, as a guide for determining the basic work of all statistical offices, including regional statistical offices. They ensure that the statistical develop along the co-ordinated lines. The “Main trends in the work of State statistical bodies activities” are prepared every five years. The “Unified plan for statistical surveys and the processing and publication of their findings” is prepared annually. Annual plans serve also reliability checks of the statistics obtained from reporting units. They relate to the activities of all State statistical bodies. Plans of the main analytical and methodological tasks concern the relevant work of the Federal Statistical Office. The evaluation of these plans demonstrates their usefulness in improving the work of the Federal Statistical Office and of the whole system of Czechoslovak State statistical bodies. They will have to be modified in line with the new requirements and tasks of the State statistical services.
